Parent Mentors work to inform families of special education students about a system that can sometimes be difficult to navigate. Our Parent Mentor in Toledo, Monica McCain, recently spoke with her local news station about the work she does with families in her school district, as well as providing an explanation of what an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is and why a student would need one.
Monica uses her own experience to help other families be prepared for IEP meetings and to break down the communication barriers that find their way into these conversations.
You can find additional resources related to these plans and the IEP process here.
