The Basics of an Intervention Assistance Team (IAT)

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support may be referred to as an Intervention Assistance Team (IAT), a Response to Interventions Team, a Behavior Academic Assistance Team or another district-specific designation. This team consists of district staff members, the child’s parents and the child (as appropriate), and also may include other individuals who have specific knowledge about the child. The team, through collaboration, develops intervention strategies to support the student’s success in the classroom. The Basics of an Individualized Education Program (IEP)

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) outlines the educational services provided to a student with disabilities. In creating an IEP, the IEP team, along with the student’s parents, look at the current level of educational achievement and the identified educational needs of the student to develop goals and objectives for academic growth for the school year. The IEP is a written document that establishes the supports and services to be provided to the child. Progress monitoring is a part of a student’s IEP used to determine if the student is making progress. The monitoring helps determine if the goals of the IEP are being met. The results of the monitoring can be a basis to re-evaluate the IEP to provide different supports that may better meet the needs of the student.
